BE AROUND PEOPLE THAT DREAM AND SUPPORT OTHERS

At Boom Badminton, we believe in the power of sport to bring people together. Whether you're a beginner picking up a racket for the first time or an experienced player looking to compete, Boom is your home for badminton.

Lydia “Boom” Powell

Lydia Powell is the founder, coach, and former England international and National Champion, behind Boom Badminton. Coaching badminton is Lydia's true passion, and it shines through in everything she does – whether it’s mentoring players or fellow coaches. With nearly a decade of experience, she’s dedicated to growing the sport she loves and ensuring it reaches more people. She’s proud to be one of the few independent, progressive, full-time coaches in the country, always striving to bring the very best in coaching to the badminton community.

Lydia holds Badminton England Level 3 (the highest coaching qualification) and Level 3 Tutoring & Assessing Qualifications. She has also had the honour of representing England as a Badminton Europe Staff Coach for two consecutive years, specifically selected to coach at their prestigious U15 camp, working alongside some of the best young players in Europe and collaborating with highly experienced coaches from across the continent.

Lydia’s ultimate goal is to enhance the reputation of badminton across the country, and create more opportunities for people to play.

Under Lydia’s leadership, Boom Badminton has grown into the thriving, forward-thinking community it is today, and she continues to inspire and elevate everyone around her with her knowledge, enthusiasm, and dedication to the sport.

jake everett-rose

Jake has been with Boom Badminton for 4 years now and has been instrumental in shaping the success of the communities Turn Up and Play for Adults classes, which take place on a weekly basis. His commitment to creating a fun and inclusive environment for all our adult players has been transformative.

But that’s not all – Jake has also played a huge role in growing the junior participation at Boom. With a hunger for self development, Jake also Qualified as a Personal Trainer in 2021, aiming to inspire individuals with his high energy and passion for the sport, alongside helping even more young players to get involved and develop their skills.

On top of all of this, Jake now regularly represents Sussex County, having only started his badminton journey with professional coaching at the age of 19! His dedication is truly inspiring, and it’s no wonder he’s been able to help others reach their potential.

ZAK goodsell

Zak joined the Boom Badminton team 3 years ago and has been a key figure in leading the Futures Programme for players aged 13 and under. His love for the sport and helping the players develop has been incredible, and he's played a massive role in the expansion of the junior development programme.

Zak, like Jake, also represents Sussex County, but his journey took a unique path. He came through the county ranks as a junior, having shown natural talent early on and entering competitions in his early teens, but then he then took a more social route for many years, before rediscovering his love for badminton at a higher level, in a rare environment — Boom.

Zak’s commitment to both the sport and to its community shows, through his work with the younger players, and his fellow coaching team who continue to flourish together.

“All very knowledgeable, professional and approachable.”
